What is the entourage effect?
It is a theory that holds that when multiple cannabis compounds (cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids) are integrated, their medicinal effects may be enhanced. It is believed that the group dynamics of the entourage effect form medicinal properties that would otherwise not be present in the use of a singular, pure cannabinoid such as THC, CBD, CBG or CBN.
Therapeutic effects of cannabis compounds are activated when binding with natural receptors in the brain and throughout the central nervous system (CB1 + CB2). The human endocannabinoid system is designed to link with cannabinoids naturally produced by the body and can also bind with compounds found in cannabis plants.
CBD products generally come in 3 cannabinoid spectrums:
- Full Spectrum
- Broad Spectrum
- CBD Isolate
Of these 3 spectrum profiles, the added health benefits of the entourage effect will be mostly present in full spectrum products, and to a lesser degree, broad spectrum products. Learn more about full spectrum, broad spectrum and CBD Isolate before making a decision as to what kind of product works best for your lifestyle and needs.
